Pearled Barley is a hearty, tasty grain with a light nutty flavour and delightful chewy texture. It is great in soups, hotpots and stir-fries.Pearled barley is barley grain that has been processed to remove the outer hull and bran.
If adding to a soup or stew, add an additional 3-4 cups stock or water and cook for 45 minutes. If cooking as a side dish use 3 parts water/stock to one part pearled barley and simmer on low heat for 45 minutes.
When barley is tender and most of the liquid is absorbed; fluff grains with a fork, and serve with curries and stir-fries. Pre-cooked Barley can also be used in salads and as a savoury filling for stuffed capsicums.
